Generative Fill is part of the new Adobe Photoshop hotness coming as a result of Adobe’s Firefly and Sensei AI efforts. Company releases beta version of Photoshop with new features available to anyone creative cloud subscription Which downloads from beta channel.

Unfortunately, after downloading the beta, some people are finding that the generative fill feature is disabled. #so frustrating.
The good news is that it can be fixed, but it certainly isn’t intuitively obvious. Here’s how to enable generative fill on your up-to-date computer if it’s grayed out.
How to enable generative fill
The quickest way to make sure you’re running the correct version is to choose System Information from the Help menu. You should see a screen like this.
For versions 24.6.x and builds greater than or equal to m2818 see:
Also, make sure you’re logged in to the Creative Cloud desktop app. We’ll come back to that in a moment and it helps if you’re logged in.
To test this, you must have a file open and a raster layer selected. You should also have a selection made with the Lasso or Selection tool around the body of the pixel in your image.
If you’ve done these two things, and you still have the bottom options grayed out, it’s time to fix it.
This is the strangest requirement. Apparently, you can’t use the new generative fill feature unless you share some personally identifiable information with the Adobe Behance cloud service. I, personally, do not use Behance. Apparently, many people who download the Photoshop beta don’t even use it. Behance users, in contrast, will have already shared their confidential information with the service and will be able to use Photoshop’s Generative Fill AI feature.

Don’t even start telling me about services, doctors and anyone else who blocks access unless you give your personal information. Big companies don’t respect keeping people’s identity safe. It’s not a crazy worry. Adobe, on two separate occasions 2013 And in 2019, 38 million and 7.5 million users’ confidential information was breached and lost to hackers.
But now that you know the cautionary concern about sharing your birthday, here’s how to share your birthday and unlock the Generative Fill feature. In the Creative Cloud Apps tab, scroll down and click Behance in the bottom left.
This will take you to this annoying, but necessary screen:
Assuming you’re willing to risk sharing your personal information with Adobe for access to Generative Fill, give Behance your month and year of birth. For those who don’t use the service, Behance is a social media platform that lets you showcase your work to other Adobe users. So, of course it becomes the gatekeeper to a new AI facility…because…I’m sure there were meetings.

In any case, once you’ve entered your information, quit and relaunch Photoshop Beta. Now, you will have generative fill enabled.
So, what can you do with Generative Fill?
It fills in the areas you select with AI generated images. In my testing, it’s hit or miss, but here’s an example that’s pretty impressive. Let’s start with a photo of a truck I shot a while back:
As you can see, there is no driver. I selected the front and side windows, and when I clicked on generative fill, I gave it a prompt of “driver inside truck”. Here’s what Photoshop provided:
It did something weird with the side mirrors, but it also added someone to the inside of the truck. Note how well the shadow falls on the driver’s arm. that’s impressive.
How is it different from Midjourney and DAL-E?
Midjourney and DAL-E generate complete images from text signals. Photoshop’s Generative Fill lets you work with areas of your images and add features and details in specific places.
