Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a dramatic win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) after thrashing the home side by 15 runs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Wednesday, leaving them on the verge of being knocked out of the IPL 2023 playoff race. However, the clash was not without fireworks, especially in the final over of the match.
PBKS needed 33 runs to win off the final over of the match, with Liam Livingstone getting out for 77. The England all-rounder hit Ishant Sharma for a six off the second and third balls and a four and a four off the fourth ball. A ‘no-ball’ was declared due to being above the waist and was also deposited in the stands when 7 runs came from that delivery.
DC captain David Warner and bowler Ishant Sharma were seen having a heated argument with the umpire about the legality of the delivery. Warner also reviewed the decision calling it a ‘no ball’ but replays showed that the ball was above the waist.

But the experienced Ishant Sharma held his nerve to bowl two dot balls in the next two deliveries and Livingstone was eventually dismissed on the last ball of the over going for his century, but only 94 off 48 balls with 9 sixes and 5 fours. Can only make
“It was a poor performance in the field but we will get the win. We lost the toss but batted fluidly. The wicket helped after inconsistent pitches at home. You want continuity from your home venue. We haven’t been able to work out how good the total is,” Warner said at the post-match presentation.
PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan, who was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Ishant Sharma, admitted that his team had started expecting a win after a ‘no-ball’ call in the final over. “After that no-ball, we had hope because Livy (Liam Livingstone) was playing a brilliant innings. Even my decision to go for the spinner in the last over backfired. And earlier the fast bowlers did not pitch the ball up in the powerplay. This was the plan but we did not execute. It’s hurting us. We are giving away 50-60 runs in every powerplay and not taking wickets.
DC moved off the bottom of the table with their 5th win in 13 matches and now have 10 points and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are at the bottom with only 8 points so far.
