Tesla is showing off new footage of its Tesla Bots, which appears to be a production-ready chassis, now rolling forward (slowly) without some of the stumbling blocks we saw in their first reveal. Robots can apparently also perform other tasks, such as picking up items and recognizing objects.
Tesla’s bot, designed as a humanoid robot, was originally revealed at the company’s AI Day event last year. At the time, Tesla could only show a disassembled version of the bot that the robot could barely move, let alone perform any physical labor on stage. A version that was supposed to be closer to the production model was shown but was held up by a stand and could only wave to onlookers. Now, Tesla is showing off the robot more like that model, but moving around independently a little more slowly.
The video highlights some specific updates from the Tesla bot project, including motor torque control, exploring and remembering the environment, AI training from human-tracked movements, and manipulating objects. A Tesla bot was shown picking up objects from one container and placing them in another, which was also demonstrated as an example of training the bot’s AI from human exposure.
