Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of refraining from visiting violence-hit Manipur. Talking to the media at his residence in Jaipur, CM Gehlot said, “I have seen for the first time that a Prime Minister is visiting Karnataka, Rajasthan and other places for elections, but not Manipur. He has a government in Manipur, just imagine what he would have said if there was a Congress government there.”
The senior Congress leader also criticized PM Modi for allegedly referring to incidents in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while commenting on videos of women being paraded naked and molested in Manipur and said Modi’s remarks hurt Rajasthan’s sentiments. Gehlot said, “The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh should take care of the law and order situation in their states, it has hurt the sentiments of Rajasthan.”
The Rajasthan CM also suggested that PM Modi should have held a meeting to review the situation in Manipur. “If PM Modi cannot visit Manipur, he should have called a meeting and reviewed the situation in Manipur,” he said. This comes after PM Modi on Thursday took note of the recent sexual assault on women in Manipur and appealed to the chief ministers of all states to tighten law and order, referring to Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh during his address.

Commenting on the situation in Manipur ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, PM Modi said, “It is a shameful incident for any society…Who did this and who is responsible is a separate issue but it has brought shame to our country. I appeal to all chief ministers to tighten law and order. Be it Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh or Manipur…the issue of honor of a woman is above all politics.”
Earlier on Friday, a minister in the Gehlot cabinet was sacked hours after he criticized his own government over the recent crime against women in the poll-bound state. In his address to the state assembly, Rajendra Singh Gudha said, “It is true and it should be accepted that we have failed in women’s safety. We should look inside ourselves instead of Manipur why atrocities on women have increased in Rajasthan.”
According to the Governor House, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has recommended the removal of Minister Rajendra Singh Gudha to Governor Kalraj Mishra.
