An official marketing video for Sony’s Xperia 5V has recently surfaced, and the forecast is not good as the upcoming smartphone could see a substantial drop.
The video was originally posted to the r/SonyXperia subreddit by user JB2unique. uploading to youtube, This clip is your standard marketing ploy: several models showing off the Xperia 5V from different angles to get customers excited. The most annoying thing about it is that there are only two cameras on the back of the device. Presumably, there is a wide-angle lens sitting above the ultra-wide option. There appears to be no third camera for a telephoto lens, which is a very strange omission considering previous models, such as the Xperia 5 IVThere are three.

cutting costs
It is unknown why Sony is going down this route. A user on the original Reddit thread believes that perhaps the company has somehow found a way to integrate a telephoto lens into the main lens to create a dual-lens smartphone camera. Or perhaps Sony is removing it altogether in an effort to keep the Xperia 5 V at the same price as the Xperia 5 IV (normally it costs $999 / £949 / AU$1,399); Possibly even less. The latter seems to be the prevailing theory online.
It is certainly a bold move on the part of Sony to remove the telephoto option from its next flagship mobile device. Xperia phones, eg Pro-IKnown for his skill in photography.
However, perhaps the signs were already there. One of the things we complained about in our review of the Xperia 5 IV was the camera. It sports “the weakest zoom range of any flagship Xperia phone since the original Xperia 1 and 5”. Sony would have considered the removal of the telephoto lens the logical next step for the series.
return technique
Apart from the camera array, the video reveals a few interesting things. As others have pointed out, the front of the phone looks similar Xperia 1 IV, complete with the selfie lens embedded in the top bezel. There will be a 3.5 audio jack on the top – a surprisingly rare feature to have on smartphones nowadays. one of these is the one around the camera Zeiss T* Logo This shows that the anti-reflective coating is making a comeback. It may also launch in three different colours: Black, White and Light Blue.

Nothing else can be ascertained from the video, but the leak doesn’t stop there.
In February 2023, a listing surfaced on Geekbench that revealed the Xperia 5V would be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC (system on a chip) plus 16GB of RAM. Another leak from April said that the same device would have 33W fast charging capability. Both of these hardware specs are direct upgrades from the Xperia 5 IV. So the theory that Sony is trying to keep the retail price of its upcoming smartphone low might not be so far-fetched.
Of course, like any leak, take all of this information with a grain of salt. Things can change at the last minute.
