Manish Malhotra officially confirms working on Meena Kumari biopic

Manish Malhotra will direct Meena Kumari’s biopic, the celebrity fashion designer has finally confirmed. He will be turning director for the first time. Manish also revealed that the scripting stage of the film is underway. In an interview, Manish spoke openly about making a film on Meena Kumari’s biography. The film is based on his work, he said. He said, “I don’t know how it came about but it is happening. We are still working on the script. Script is always important. I have been reading her books. The film is based on her books. I have always been attracted to Meena Kumari.”

Manish also discussed how Rekha inspired him to choose Meena Kumari for his project. He said, “Rekha once told me that you know when you turn 40, you will realize Meena Kumari’s talent. And it is true. But I was young and busy with work, but when I turned 40 I understood not only Meena Kumari’s talent, but also Nargis ji and Dilip Kumar and Guru Dutt.” He further added that he started watching films from his era to understand it better. Manish praised her facial expressions and commented on how skillfully she used her eyes.

The news of the celebrity designer directing the film was doing the rounds even before he officially confirmed it. Tajdar Amrohi, son of Meena Kumari and filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, also spoke on the issue and vowed to sue Kriti and Manish if the film begins production.

For those who are unaware, there are rumors that Kriti Sanon will play the role of the veteran actress.According to a report in a leading daily, Tajdar also said, “She (Meena Kumari) was my mother and Kamal Amrohi was my father. Please ask those people to make a film on my parents and I am sure they will not do it, because they were nothing. Anyway, whatever they make will be based on all lies.”
