On the opening day of the second Test in Trinidad, Virat Kohli displayed unwavering determination and showcased his batting prowess, leading India to a strong position. The match held special significance for Kohli, as it was his 500th international match for India. In celebration of this milestone, the former captain played a determined innings, scoring his 30th Test half-century and ending the day unbeaten on 87, taking India to 288/4 at stumps.
Facing the West Indies attack on a challenging track that offered little assistance in stroke-making, Kohli displayed immense composure and skill. He took 97 balls to reach his half-century and shortly after surpassed the great Jacques Kallis to become the fifth-highest run-scorer in international cricket.
While fans across the world showered Kohli with praise through social media, one particular fan was ear-to-ear of the Indian maestro – West Indies wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva. Chirping behind the stumps, Joshua’s words were surprisingly the words of a fanboy who encouraged Kohli to reach a hundred in this match after missing out on a century in the previous encounter in Dominica. Joshua also shared a heartwarming anecdote – his mother had expressed her intention to watch Kohli bat at the Queen’s Park Oval.

The day’s play saw fluctuating fortunes, with India getting off to a strong start thanks to a quickfire 139-run partnership between Rohit Sharma (80) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (57). However, in the afternoon session, the Windies mounted a counterattack and put the brakes on India’s scoring rate. Nevertheless, as the final session began, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja (36*) showed their class, playing brilliant strokes and putting on an unbeaten 106-run stand as India progressed without losing a wicket.
As the second day begins, all eyes will be on Kohli, who will be keen to see if he can convert his brilliant innings into a worthy overseas hundred – a feat he hasn’t achieved since December 2018 . The stage is set, and Joshua Da Silva will be among those who will look forward to cheering and enthusiastically welcoming their cricketing idol behind the stumps as a fan hopes to witness a truly historic moment at the Queen’s Park Oval.
