After a stellar opening, ‘Fast X’, the latest in the high octane Fast and Furious franchise, is giving a tough fight to The Kerala Story at the box office. While Adah Sharma-starrer’s controversial Bollywood film is inching closer to the stupendous success of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathan, its collections have taken a dip in the third week. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film earned Rs 7.5 crore on Day 1 and Rs 12.50 crore on Day 2 at the box office. At the same time, Jason Mamoa and Vin Diesel starrer Fast X earned Rs 12.50 crore on the first day and Rs 13.50 crore on the second day at the box office.

Directed by Louis Leterrier, Vin Diesel stars Jason Mamoa, Jason Statham, John Cena, Carlyse Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Brie Larson and an ensemble cast. Fast X, the 10th installment in the Fast and Furious universe, opened at 12 international box offices, grossing $69 million in two days. The Hollywood blockbuster has set a target of $280 million worldwide in its first weekend of release. The Close Home, Fast and Furious franchise in the US has had lower returns and lower viewership than in the international market.

The homegrown market has a thing for exploding cars, engaging superstars in physics-defying car chases and stunts possible only in the quantum realm. Fast X is expected to surpass John Wick 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Meanwhile, with the West Bengal ban lifted and Tamil Nadu having adequate security, the Kerala story is set to make a bit more moolah. Controversies as well as exaggerations happen in the home market. No?
