Punjab Kings (PBKS) are on the brink of being knocked out of the IPL 2023 playoff race after Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a 15-run defeat in match no.1. 64 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Wednesday. Shikhar Dhawan’s PBKS will now need a miracle to qualify, even if they win their last league match of the season.
PBKS finished 8th on the IPL 2023 points table with 12 points from 13 matches. A win in their final game will give them 14 points which may not be enough if Mumbai Indians (MI) or Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) win their remaining matches.

David Warner’s Delhi Capitals, however, registered their 5th win of the season, took a 10-point lead and finally moved out of the bottom rung of the points table. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) replaced DC at the last spot but can move back to 9th if they can beat RCB in their last league match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday night.
Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) are the only team to have qualified for the playoff stage so far with 18 points from 13 matches.
David Warner has reached seventh place in the Orange Cap race
DC skipper David Warner completed 400 runs for the 9th time in his IPL career – joining the likes of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to achieve the feat. Warner missed out on his 6th fifty of the IPL 2023 season but reached 7th position in the IPL 2023 Orange Cap race.
Warner now has 430 runs from 13 matches with five fifties and a strike-rate of 128.74. RCB captain Faf du Plessis has so far retained the Orange Cap by scoring 631 runs in 12 matches.

GT opener Shubman Gill is second with 576 runs from 13 matches while RR opener is third with 575 runs from 13 matches. Du Plessis could extend his lead at the top as he prepares to take on SRH on Thursday night.
Mohammed Shami retains Purple Cap
GT pacer Mohammed Shami retained the Purple Cap along with his teammate and leg-spinner Rashid Khan with 23 wickets in 13 matches. PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh remained at the 10th spot with 16 wickets from 13 matches after failing to pick up a wicket against DC on Wednesday night.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal of Rajasthan Royals remains at the third position with 21 wickets in 13 matches so far.
