Summer vacations are on the way and it is a happy time for kids to have fun. While kids want to make the most of summer vacations, the scorching sun and heat can create problems. “The intense heat can make summer challenging for children by limiting their outdoor play time and posing risks to their health and skin. To keep their children safe, parents need to be aware of rising temperatures and longer sunlight One needs to be aware of the health concerns associated with staying in the heat such as stroke and sunburn,” says Preeti Bhandari, parenting expert and co-founder of Pre-School Little Ellie.
5 tips to ensure a safe and fun summer vacation for kids
Bhandari lists some steps parents can take to ensure that their kids have a fun and safe summer vacation:
1. Protect Them From The Sun: Urge your youngsters to cover up with hats, sunglasses, and light, breathable fabric clothing. Remember to wear sunscreen with at least 30 SPF (for 6 months+) and reapply every two hours to protect your babies from the sun.
2. Stay Safe While Swimming: Swimming is an excellent summer activity to beat the heat while staying fit. Swimming safely is important because drowning is the primary cause of accidental death in children. As a result, it is important to always watch children while they are swimming. Around or in water, children who cannot swim should wear life jackets. Enroll your kids in swim lessons or teach them to swim. Remind your kids not to run too near the pool.

3. Don’t leave them out when it’s too hot: It is important to keep your child cool and prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Encourage them to rest in a shaded area and take frequent breaks during play time. Avoid outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and schedule them to stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day and in an air-conditioned or fan-equipped room with a set and controlled temperature if the weather is too hot outside Keep This is important for young children, who are prone to heat illnesses.
4. Maintain Cleanliness: To prevent diseases and stay healthy during summer, it is essential to ensure that children practice basic hygiene habits. Encouraging frequent hand washing with soap and water, especially before meals and after outdoor activities, is one of the most important things parents can do for their children. Make sure they shower and wear fresh clothes after playing to avoid bacteria and bad odor from sweat.
5. Give them a healthy diet in summer: Fresh fruits and vegetables, which are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, should be a part of their diet, in addition to fluids. Choose light, fresh foods like salads, sandwiches, and smoothies instead of processed, sugary items. To keep your energy level up throughout the day, encourage regular meal times and snack breaks. Keep them hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fluids like fruit juices, coconut water etc. Make sure they have their own bottle of water or glucose with them when they go out to play.
Preeti Bhandari says, “The bright and sunny days of summer vacations are ideal for creating memorable family memories. However, parents must ensure that their children have a safe, enjoyable and healthy summer.”
