“Digital India is an ambitious initiative that aims to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. Paytm is empowering street vendors and small businesses to accept digital payments and join the cashless revolution,” tweeted Chawrasia.
Merchants, including medium and small enterprises, are increasingly adopting new-age payment technology to provide a hassle-free shopping experience to their customers. The digital payment modes that Paytm offers to its merchants typically include a QR code, Point of Sale (POS) machine, and a payment gateway. Merchants and sellers can set up Paytm QR code easily and at zero cost.

A LinkedIn user Nischal Sanghvi also posted about seeing a woman selling maize on the roadside. What took her by surprise was that she was using the Paytm QR code to accept electronic payments. Not only did the vendors not have bank accounts, but they also reported that most of their customers “paid through mobiles.”
“I was on a road trip in the mountainous regions of the Indian state of Uttarakhand when I stopped by a roadside tribal selling corn. What surprised me was that these un-schooled tribal vendors from highly disadvantaged backgrounds were using QR codes to take electronic payments.
“When I spoke to them, I came to know that they had bank accounts and most of their customers paid through their mobiles. Hats off to Narendra Modi’s Digitalindia.com initiative which has transformed India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. A huge credit goes to Vijay Shekhar Sharma’s Paytm National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for realizing the dream of Digital India,” Shanghvi posted along with a short video.
Millions of Paytm users can make contactless payments through QR codes scanned from the company’s mobile application. Paytm QR Code has become a revolutionary way to engage merchants with positive aspects of low acquisition cost and scalability.
