This feature was seen Artem Rusakovsky, who tweeted about it this afternoon. For those who already have this feature enabled in their account, activating it is as simple as clicking the effect icon in the bottom right of your preview video before joining a meeting, then describing what you want. While typing a prompt, then choosing from a selection of categories, as seen in this helpful GIF from Google:
Then, if you’re already in a meeting and want to switch things up, the option is hidden in the “Apply Vision Effects” option in the three dot menu. I tried testing it out, and I’m sad to report that I didn’t get into the initial rollout, despite being in Google’s testing program. Google says on its support page that the feature is “gradually rolling out and may not be available to you yet.”
It’s probably as good as that, because I’ll try to make an awesome HR Giger-themed rollercoaster background or something, which is decidedly unprofessional.
But maybe you’ll be luckier than me. If you want to try and are not already part of the Workspace Labs testing program, you can request to join on Google’s site. However, there’s one major caveat to be aware of if you sign up: Google’s Workspace Labs Privacy Policy For personal accounts, it says, “Human reviewers read, interpret, and process your Workspace Labs data to improve features”.
