England all-rounder Ben Stokes’ bowling ability remains a challenge as the ‘Ashes’ begin in a month’s time. Chennai Super Kings bought Ben Stokes for Rs 16.25 crore. His bowling and batting abilities were one of the major reasons for his price tag. He played in CSK’s first two matches of the season, scoring 7 and 8 and conceding 18 runs in his only over with the ball. Stokes has not played a single match for CSK since April 3 after injuring his toe.
“Ben’s ability to bowl overs at the moment is still a challenge, but he’s there as batting cover. But with Moeen bowling well in good conditions – we go to Delhi (next) who is turning – We think the balance has been right,” Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Stokes once again became available for selection last week. But he has not been able to make a place for himself in the starting XI. CSK has decided to take Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Mathisha Pathirana and Mahesh Thikshana as the four overseas players. CSK could have become the first team to qualify against Kolkata Knight Riders but their batting came up short. Ben Stokes could come in to add firepower in their next match against Delhi Capitals.
“And look, we’re second on the table, so it’s not our style to chop and change because we’ve had losses where things didn’t go our way. We’re not going to do that. We’re going to tinker with it.” Can.” But we are very focused on getting the right team in for Delhi,” Fleming said.
Stokes had earlier indicated that he might leave the IPL early to give himself enough time to come back and play in England’s next Test against Ireland on June 1, which has been seen as preparation for the Ashes. But as it stands, it is highly unlikely that he will play any red-ball cricket before the Ashes.
