Roger Binny, one of the members, has distanced himself after the 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning team issued a statement on the ongoing tussle between the protesting wrestlers and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. have taken. According to ANI, Binny, who is also the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said that he has not issued any statement on the matter and sports should not be mixed with politics.
“Contrary to some media reports, I would like to clarify that I have not issued any statement regarding the current situation of the wrestlers’ protest. I believe the competent authorities are working to resolve the issue. A As a former cricketer, I believe that sports should not be mixed with politics,” Binny told ANI.

Wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, along with many others, were protesting on the streets demanding the removal of WFI chief Singh. They have leveled allegations of sexual harassment against Singh and an FIR has also been registered for the same. On the day of the inauguration of the new Parliament building, wrestlers were detained as they tried to march towards it from Jantar Mantar. The wrestlers alleged that despite protesting peacefully, the police manhandled them.

The statement issued by the 1983 World Cup winning team said that the cricketers were distressed at the scenes of misbehavior with the wrestlers. It also states that a few days ago when the wrestlers decided to immerse their medals in the river Ganga, the former champions got worried.
“We are distressed and disturbed by the indecent scenes of manhandling of our champion wrestlers. We are also most concerned that they are thinking of throwing their hard earned money into the river Ganga. Binny, however, says that he was not consulted before issuing the statement. Earlier, member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team-turned-politician Kirti Azad had condemned the treatment meted out to the protesting wrestlers by the Delhi Police.
“The way Delhi Police treated our wrestlers who were protesting peacefully was condemnable. Our women wrestlers worked hard and they played for India’s pride and won medals.
