Do you remember the social media influencer ‘FoodPharma’? Well, it was only a while back that they revealed that Bournvita has a lot of sugar in it. Now, they are highlighting the unhealthy aspects of the bread we eat every day.
Revanth Himatsingka, also known as ‘FoodPharma’ on social media, expressed his opinion about bread in India calling it a “big joke”. According to him, two types of bread are available in the country. The first type, which is white bread, is openly unhealthy. Other types include brown, multigrain and wholewheat breads, which claim to be healthier but are not as nutritious as they claim to be, according to FoodPharma’s statement.

Till a few decades ago, he said, bread was not a widespread food item in India. However, its popularity has grown tremendously, and many Indians now use it for breakfast sandwiches, school tiffins, and snacks.
Social media users emphasize that if you eat just two slices of bread a day, you will have more than 700 slices in a year. Hence, it is essential to choose the right type of bread wisely.
FoodPharma says that the brown color of brown bread in India is not achieved by using whole wheat (flour) but by adding caramel colour. This colorant is the same type used in products such as Coca-Cola and Bournvita.
In his video, Himatsingka shows that most brown breads in India contain refined wheat flour (maida) as the first ingredient, making it the main ingredient used to make bread. Due to this fact these breads are considered unhealthy.
He further pointed out that many multigrain breads in India also contain maida as a key ingredient, which also undermines their health claims.
