The WWE legend popularly known as Iron Sheik has passed away. He was 81 years old. The Iron Sheik aka Hussein Khosrow Ali Vaziri was the only Iranian champion in WWE history. The news of the WWE Hall of Fame star’s passing was confirmed by his representatives.

Hossein Khosrow Ali Waziri, also known as The Iron Sheikh, left this world for his heavenly abode on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, his representative announced. In 1988, The Iron Sheik won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, making him the only Iranian to do so. Hosseini was considered one of the greatest wrestlers to compete in his generation.
An official statement on his social media page read, “Today, we gather with a heavy heart to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature and an iconic figure who left an indelible mark on the world of professional wrestling. It is together. It is with great sadness that we share the news of The Iron Sheik’s passing, but we are also comforted to know that he passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy that will live on for generations to come Will remain
WWE also released a statement on the death of the legend and expressed their grief over his loss. The statement read: “WWE is saddened to hear of the passing of WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik and extends our condolences to his family, friends and fans.”
Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock joined others to pay tribute to the legend. The wrestler-actor took to Twitter to post a video in which he recalled the memories he had of Shaikh, whom he addressed as his “uncle”.
Several other celebs including Booker T and actor Ken Jeong expressed their condolences to the wrestler.

Iron Sheikh’s real name was Hussain Khosrow Ali Waziri. He was born in 1942 in Iran. Hossein was touted as Hulk Rogan’s first opponent, but he eventually defeated the Sheik to regain the title, which sparked Hulkamania. Sheik was the WWF Tag Team Champion, and won the title in 1985 with Nikolai Volkoff. The Sheik earned himself a place in the WWE Hall of Fame. He was joined there by his longtime rival and partner Sgt. Kill.
Sheikh is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol, and their three daughters.
