Afterwards Johnny Depp And Harrison Ford, starring in the historical drama Firebrand, actors Jude Law and Alicia Vikander received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 on Sunday. The film received a standing ovation which lasted for more than eight minutes.

According to Variety, a visibly moved Alicia Vikander signaled to the cheering audience to stop or she’d cry, while her beaming husband Michael Fassbender watched her from the back row. Jude Law, who plays the ruthless and cruel King Henry VIII, received a standing ovation from the audience and so did Brazilian director Anuj. Vikander joins a line-up of leading actresses at Cannes, including Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman and Lily Gladstone, who have given performances that wowed audiences.

Prior to the debut of their latest film Firebrand, Jude Law and Alicia Vikander were among the biggest names on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.
For the event, Vikander wore a peach gown with silver beaded accents and her hair pulled back in a half-updo. On the red carpet, she was joined by her husband, X-Men actor Michael Fassbender. Law, on the other hand, opted for a traditional black tuxedo and the Hollywood star sported a mustache for the occasion.

Directed by Karim Anuj and produced by Jessica and Henrietta Ashworth, the 2023 historical drama film Firebrand focuses on Catherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII. The film is inspired by Elizabeth Fremantle’s 2013 novel The Queen’s Gambit. Jude Law, Sam Riley, Eddie Marsan, Simon Russell Beale and Erin Doherty join the cast. This is Anuj’s first English language film as a filmmaker. Erin Doherty from The Crown plays preacher and author Anne Askew, Simon Russell Beale from Operation Mincemeat plays Bishop Stephen Gardiner, and Sam Riley and Eddie Marsan from Maleficent play Thomas and Edward Seymour respectively.
