American artificial intelligence research laboratory OpenAI announced the launch of an iOS app for ChatGPT. Similar to the original web model of the chatbot that was released about six months ago, the app is also a free-to-use version built on GPT-3.5.
Existing subscribers of ChatGPT Plus will be able to get exclusive access to the capabilities of GPT-4, early access to features as well as faster response times on iOS.
ChatGPT on the App Store
OpenAI disclosed in a blog post That new mobile app will sync Chat’s user history with its bot across devices. There’s also voice input, powered by Whisper, the company’s open-source speech recognition model.
At launch, the app will only be available in the US and will expand to other countries “in the coming weeks”. Next on its roadmap for OpenAI is Android device expansion.
“With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we’re taking another step toward our mission by turning cutting-edge research into useful tools that empower people while making them ever more accessible.”
While the company failed to provide an exact date, it did say that Android users will be next in line.
rise to prominence
While OpenAI didn’t signal a new mobile avatar, the move isn’t surprising as ChatGPT’s popularity has skyrocketed in a short span of time. Popular Artificial Intelligence Chatbot Attract 100 million users just two months after launching. It had around 590 million visits in January.
OpenAI, a private company backed by Microsoft, made it available for free to the public last November, just 5 days after ChatGPT gained one million users. To put things in perspective, it took about 2.5 months for Instagram to reach one million downloads. At the same time, popular streaming service Netflix had to wait more than 3 years to reach 1 million users.
Recently, ChatGPT presented several scenarios on what could happen in the digital asset space over the next decade.
The resounding success of ChatGPT has ignited a frantic rush to release new AI products to market. This hysteria has consumed some of the biggest tech behemoths and startups as they fight for space in a growing field.
For one, Google is working on its own AI chatbot, Bard, which has so far failed to woo investors. Wrong Answer in promotional video. Chinese tech giant Baidu has also worked on plans to integrate its AI chatbot Ernie into its search engine services this year.
