In the 14th century, a Vedic scholar named Sayana wrote the following: “With deep respect, I bow to the Sun, who moves 2,202 yojanas in half a nimesh.”
Yojanas are 9 miles long, while nimeshas are 16/75 of a second. Multiplying 2,202 yojanas by 9 miles by 75/8 nimesha gives a speed of 185,794 miles per second or 2,99,000 kilometers per second.
This is surprisingly close to the actual, “scientifically proven,” speed of 300,000 km/s. The Vedas are often cited as their primary source.
