James Gunn, who is best known for the hit Marvel franchise Guardians of the Galaxy, took on the role of DC’s co-runner alongside Peter Kiser a while back. Now the filmmaker has taken a dig at Marvel while talking about the difference between both the comic superheroes. He noted that DC has more traditional superheroes with fantasy elements and secret identities.

Reportedly, he talked about how DC will differentiate itself from the Marvel Universe with the reboot. During an appearance on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, Gunn said, “If you look at the MCU, there are very few traditional superheroes.” He pointed out that traditionally superheroes are supposed to have secret identities but the MCU rarely follows that pattern.
He continued, “There was no one with a secret identity until Spider-Man. He (Captain America) was turned into a soldier despite wearing a mask. Iron Man outed himself at the end of the first Iron Man.” I don’t want to deal with all the secret identity stuff because they didn’t.”
He further explained that DC has more fantasy elements and for him Clark Kent and Superman are two different characters and how they are set in their own world makes DC richer. “The fantasy element is more in the DCU because it has larger-than-life superheroes.”
He continued, “I love that we get to do true world-building at DC. It’s not just ‘we’re throwing some superheroes on Earth.’ I think right now, that’s one of the major differences.”
