Apple is launching new concert search Its Maps and Music apps have features that make it easy to find local shows. On Apple Music, Apple is adding a set list section that lives within the app browse tab, which lets you view upcoming shows and setlists for an artist’s tour.
Apple Maps, on the other hand, is getting more than 40 curated guides highlighting some of the best live music venues around the world, which Apple says can range from Viennese Symphony Hall to techno clubs in Brooklyn. The feature lets you browse through upcoming shows at each location directly within the map, but is only available in select cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Tokyo, London, Paris, and more.
Both features are powered by integration with Shazam’s concert discovery module, which, similarly, serves up a list of upcoming concerts from an artist’s page. Adding concert discovery features to Maps and Music seems like a smart move, since people might not always think of looking at Shazam when looking for an artist’s upcoming show.
Other music streaming apps like Spotify also have concert discovery features, but Spotify takes things a bit further by letting users buy tickets directly from the app. Apple currently links you to third-party ticket selling sites like Ticketmaster to let you buy tickets.
